Motorcycle Towing in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado
Northern Colorado is perfect motorcycle riding country. The run up Big Thompson Canyon to Estes Park, the long curves of Poudre Canyon on SH-14, and the back roads through Masonville and Rist Canyon draw riders from all over the Front Range. When a bike quits, gets a flat, or goes down, you need a tow company that knows a motorcycle is not just a small car. Choice Towing & Recovery tows motorcycles around the clock from Fort Collins and Greeley. Call 970-482-0159 and tell dispatch what you ride.
Why Motorcycles Need a Different Approach
A car can sit on its own four wheels on a truck deck. A motorcycle has to be held upright, balanced and secured so it cannot shift, lean or bounce on the way. The wrong tie-down point can bend a handlebar, crack a fairing or compress fork seals until they leak. Our operators load bikes onto a flatbed and secure them with soft straps at solid points on the frame and bars, keeping hooks and chains off painted parts and chrome.
We take the time to ask a few questions first:
- What make, model and style is the bike?
- Can it roll, and does the front wheel steer freely?
- Is it upright, or is it down on its side?
- Do you have the key, and is the steering lock on?
- Where does it need to go?
Those answers decide how we load it and what we bring. A 900-pound touring bike and a 250-pound dirt bike are very different jobs.
Bikes We Tow
We tow all kinds of motorcycles, including:
- Cruisers and heavy touring bikes
- Sport bikes and track bikes with low fairings
- Dual-sport and adventure bikes
- Dirt bikes
- Scooters and mopeds, common around the CSU campus
- Vintage and custom motorcycles
We also haul ATVs and side-by-sides. If your ride is stuck off the pavement rather than broken down on it, see off-road recovery.
Common Motorcycle Tow Calls in Our Area
Canyon breakdowns. US-34 through Big Thompson Canyon and SH-14 through Poudre Canyon have long stretches without a shop, and cell service drops in and out. If you get a signal, use our Send Location page so dispatch gets your exact spot before you lose coverage again.
Flat tires. Most riders do not carry a spare, and a plug kit does not fix every puncture. A tow to a motorcycle shop is often the quickest fix.
Dead batteries. Bikes that sit for a week in a garage or a parking lot near campus are prone to dead batteries. We may be able to jump it. See jump-start service.
Laydowns and crashes. A low-speed tip-over on gravel or a crash on the highway leaves a bike that should not be ridden. We tow it to your shop, dealer or home.
End of the season. When the first snow hits in fall, a bike you did not get home in time may need a ride to winter storage.
After a Motorcycle Crash
If you have gone down, take care of yourself first. Call 911 for any injury. Riders often feel fine with adrenaline running and find out later they are hurt. Once you are safe, take photos of the bike and the scene before it is moved. Our operator will lift a downed bike carefully, check for fuel or oil leaks, and secure it so damaged parts do not get worse in transit.
Where We Pick Up
We tow motorcycles throughout Larimer and Weld counties, including Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Windsor, Timnath, Wellington, Laporte, Bellvue, Berthoud, Johnstown, Milliken and Severance. We also cover the canyon and foothill routes riders love: Drake and Glen Haven on the way to Estes Park, Masonville and Horsetooth Reservoir west of town, and Livermore on US-287 heading north. Remote pickups take longer, and dispatch will give you a realistic time.
Local and Long-Distance Motorcycle Transport
Not every motorcycle tow is an emergency. We also move bikes for planned reasons: a bike you bought in Greeley that needs to come home to Fort Collins, a project bike headed to a builder, or a move across the state. For trips beyond Northern Colorado, see long-distance towing and call for a free quote.
Tips While You Wait for the Tow
- Get yourself and the bike as far off the road as you safely can, especially on narrow canyon roads.
- Turn on your hazards if they still work, and wear your hi-vis gear or keep your helmet on so you are easy to see.
- Do not try to lift a heavy touring bike alone if you are hurt or on a slope.
- Keep your key, registration and proof of insurance with you.
- Tell dispatch about any aftermarket parts, low exhaust or loose items on the bike.
